I DL-ed FFCC. For those who like SIM games with a RPG twist, get it!

    1x FFCC:King
    1x LostWinds
    1x Defend Your Castle

FFCC:King would have to be the star title in the WiiWare launch lineup, imo.

Initially skeptic, looking at how expensive the base cost is and how price gouging the DLC rates are; I even swore off never to buy this game at multiple points. Eventually caved in, what can I say?

Works as a light/casual building management sim where you build houses (generates daily income and new adventurers), send young promising kids to their doom in far off dungeons (you don’t get to enter the dungeons, but you do receive ticker updates like “Daphne is now battling a Worm”. Conquering dungeons give you access to resources to build more structures and unlocks abilities to purchase new building types (armoury, weapon shop, tavern etc).

Each day (around 5-8mins real time) is played out as follows:

    1. Review adventure reports of your band of adventurers from the previous day. (Reports are detailed down to each and every single turn of their battles, with HP, status and attack simulations quite akin to Football Manager.)
    2. Review financial status. (See how much resources were acquired from the previous day, how much you spent on researching/building new stuff)
    3. View world map and put up bounties for your towns adventurers to take on (Explore this Lvl 5 area, Defeat its boss, gather armour plating, etc.)
    4. Take a look at who’s interested in the jobs and decide whether they should take on the job (You’re too low level, go grind some more first! You’re feeling ill, go home and rest today.)
    5. While your adventurers are away, you are then free to place new structures based on how much resources you have accumulated and your building cap. Also, you can take this opportunity to talk to townspeople to boost the overall town morale indicated by a meter.
    6. If your town morale is full, you can choose to enter a time-limited “limit break” state where you can talk with townspeople to increase their current personal morale/happiness or even talk to adventurers for a temporary stat boost before they head out. Alternatively, you can cash in this full bar and work towards improving your kingdom as a whole, giving access to new gameplay options.
    7. Sky turns dark, game saves automatically, go to 1.

If you ask me, I think it’s a perfect fit for a DS game (instead of Wii) and Square Enix certainly did not skimp on production values. Don’t think of it as an exorbitantly priced download title, think of it as a cheap retail game that can be full-priced if you choose to purchase the additional content (more dungeons which unlock different race settlements, increase the building cap and introduce new building types).

    downloaded defend your castle…

1x Star Solider R to the list.

Wouldn’t recommend it to anyone but the most hardcore of score-attack enthusiasts. This game only boasts 2 levels and up to 5 minutes maximum playtime. That being said; amazing graphics and a deep scoring/weapons system do the developers no justice due to the lack of additional content.

    Score rankings are updated here:

(You can select Others within the America region when posting your score. I’m “PZH” in the rankings.)

P.S. I’ll probably put enough time into it to justify its cost but can’t see how most gamers can be convinced to pick it up.

Downloaded Dr Mario. Won 1 Lost 4 online…

  9. metal_spider Says:

Add one Dr. Mario to the tally from me as well.

Online Dr. Mario players are no joke. My k-value is down to 4300+.

    1 x Defend the Castle

Even though many labelled the game as a time-waster, I thought it is rather good just being that, i.e., time-wasting. Plus it’s a good way to train the grip, something which Wii Fit didnt really target. Good experience overall.

    1 X FFCC:MLLAK

This is a game that’s best played in short sittings, although gameplay can be quite addictive at first. The game is segregated into days, each lasting about 5-8 minutes in real time. Each day, you’ll send your adventurers out on “behests” (missions that you assign), talk to the townspeople and build up your town. Generally 5 kinds of behests I have encountered so far: Explore new areas, train, fight an area’s boss, gather upgrade resources and changing jobs. At the end of each day, your adventurers return having accomplished (or not) their tasks and you may get to build new buildings the next day.

Unfortunately, the gameplay can get quite repetitive after a while, which is why I think it is better not to play this game for long stretches - to avoid fatigue and boredom.

Quite a worthwhile download. If going for the additional content, get the race pack (3 new races) instead of getting them individually to save wii points.
